Sit Longer, Die Sooner

A new study links more time spent sitting to higher risk of death, regardless of physical activity level. American Cancer Society researches who surveyed responses from 123,216 individuals found that such a risk was more pronounced in women. Women who reported more than six hours per day of sitting were 37 per cent more likely to die during the time period studied than those who sat fewer than 3 hours a day. Men who sat more than 6 hours a day were 18 per cent more likely to die than those who sat fewer than 3 hours per day. The study appears in the American Journal of Epidemiology.

OlivePad Its makers insist that this 'pad' not be compared with the iPad. May be it'll be better accepted

Last Night I bought OlivePad. The first thing that strikes you is that it's sexy, looks nice, and you want to just grab it in your hand. And the great thing about it is that it is completely at ease in India. With built-in support for high-speed data networks (such as those being offered by CDMA operators and 3G networks of GSM operators) and Wi-Fi, this tablet can keep you connected almost everywhere  in the country. Wi-Fi keeps you connected within the campus. It just weighs 410 gm and fits easily in your coat pocket.

It runs Android 2.1 with an ARM 2 processor, has a 7 inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 800 X 400, and comes with two cameras-3 megapixel for the main camera and VGA resolution for the video chat camera. There's also built-in GPS, so that you can use it as an in-car navigation device.

The device should not be compared to an iPad, say the people behind it. Yes, both offer touch-based tablet computing, but the OlivePad is a generation lower than the iPad though higher than the iPhone/iPod Touch. This is a market that is going on to see some serious growth.

The tablet also comes with a 305 mm audio jack, a mini USB connector, micro SD card slot (up to 32 GB) and sim card slots so you can use it almost anywhere in this world without a satellite phone. It supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900 bands, and on UMTS (CDMA) 900/1900/2100 or 850/1900/2100. Since high-speed data services are already being offered by both GSM and CDMA operators, you can enjoy all their applications on this tablet, including high-speed downloads and live TV.

Since the OlivePad runs on Android, it already has a huge library of apps, from games to business applications. Applications to let you use social networking sites come bundles with this device.

Not such a Queer Household

Children raised by lesbian parents fare as well as they would in heterosexual households, new research suggests. whether or not kids from homosexual households are more likely to have a non-heterosexual orientation is still unknown. But if there is a genetic component to sexual orientation, it would make sense that kids born to a lesbian mom, say, would be more likely to be homosexual, scientists say. At the end of the day, what matters to kids is far deeper than parents' sexual orientation. In a study of nearly 90 teens, half living with female same sex couples and the others with heterosexual couples, both groups fared similarly in school. In another study, teens were asked about delinquent activities the previous year. Teens in both same sex and heterosexual households got the same average scores. Studies of gay male families are still limited since the phenomenon of male couples choosing to be parents is relatively new.

HOW DO YOU REACT WHEN YOU SEE FRIENDS DUPE SHOPS IN WAYS YOU USED TO EARLIER?

You see your friends take discounts for which they're not eligible, buy and wear clothes they later return, and in many other ways cheat the system. You find this deplorable. Then again, when you were young, you used to do many of the same things. So what do you say when your friends brag about these dubious achievements?
