Class Action Suit Filed Against Apple over Location Tracking

Two men in Florida have filed a class action lawsuit against Apple over the recently-reported hidden database file found on iPhones and 3G-enabled iPads that periodically records users' location coordinates.
The suit claims that "users of Apple products have ... no way to prevent Apple from collecting this information because even if users disable the iPhone and iPad GPS components, Apple's tracking system remains fully functional," according to PCMag.com.
This data collection technique has apparently been in use since the release of iOS 4 (the current operating system running on the iPhone and iPad), which has been out for about a year. And while the initial report indicated that the data being collected wasn't being sent to Apple, subsequent reports claimed that location information was being sent to Apple twice daily unless Location Services were disabled in the settings menu.
So the distinction appears to be that as long as you've turned off the Location Services feature, your location information won't be sent to Apple. What people are upset about, though, is the fact that the iPhone will continue to collect location information and store it in a file. When an iPhone is synchronized to a computer, that file gets transferred and the location data stored within the file can be viewed by anyone with access to the computer unless the backup is encrypted first.
Although the privacy policy for iOS 4 contains a clause stating that Apple will collect anonymous "diagnostic and usage information" from users, this lawsuit claims that such information should be conveyed in a "single sentence disclosure." The privacy policy's wording deceives users "into believing that their every move would not be tracked by Apple and then stored for future use in an Apple-designed database," according to the lawsuit.

STARING AT THE SEA

I'm staring at the sea,
A thousand memories all flood me,
I'm sinking down My hands are tied,
I'm sinking and serene,
I'll just rest here for a while,
Until the ocean pulls me in

All the memories fade away
As the waves crash against me,
They break me,
I'm lost to the sea,
Nothing was ever real,
Now I'm free.

I can still make out your distorted face,
As I return to where I belong,
The requiem you sing is a sad song,
The tears you cry are the sea I'm drowning in,
They wash away a life time of sin

To Find A way Through

To Find A Way Through

I've Been Lost Here For for to many years,
Consumed by memories, bloodshed and tears,
I've lost sight of who i am,
Caught in a life i wish i never had,
I was born with a violence in my heart,
Now i have a second chance,
To walk away and start again,
Another country, Another life,
Will i make the same mistakes twice?
Or take a different path

Take my hand and lead the way,
I'm scared I'll lose the path again,
and get lost along the way,
Spend my days trapped in a haze,
waste my life with nothing to show for it,
Spend it all wallowing in the shit,
Of everything I've ever loved and lost,

I fought my way back to the beaten track,
From the darkest places of my mind,
I walk this path to a better life,
And leave the ghosts of my past behind

India at a Glance (National Animal)

The magnificent tiger, Panthera tigris(Linnaeus), is a striped animal. It has a thick yellow coat of fur with dark stripes. The combination of grace, strength, agility and enormous power has earned the tiger its pride of place as the national animal of India. Out of eight races of the species known, the Indian race, the Royal Bengal Tiger, is found throughout the country except in the north-western region and also in the neighboring countries, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh. To check the dwindling population of tigers in India ‘Project Tiger’ was launched in April 1973. So far, 25 tiger reserves have been established in the country this project, covering an area of 33,875 sq km.

just another poem not about anyone or anything

The Sun in your Eyes:

I dont wish to be alone
But I cant do this wishful thinking
And I dont need another voice on the phone
You will pass me by while I am blinking

Go so quickly just as you came
As I try to cry out my voice is weak
I strain through pain as you give this a name
You cant see that its me who speaks

You are blind to those of my kind
Have fun walking with the sun in your eyes
At your side? How? I dont cross your mind
Is it a surprise that I found your disguise?

It was not a hard task to remove your mask
Ill help you break, shake this madness that you make
Remove the flask, answer the questions I ask
Please dont fake courage as you risk these leaps you take

You run with sun scorching in your eyes search for shade but there is none
You walk a line that is so fine hurry you are wasting time
Have you won? My mind has spun. Please dont tell me we are done
This mountain I climb is it a crime to sometimes wish you were still mine?

India at a Glance (National Bird)

The Indian Peacock , Pavo cristatus (Linnaeus), the national bird of India, is a colourful, swan-sized bird, with a fan-shaped crest of feathers, a white patch under the eye and a long slender neck. The male of the species is more colourful than the female, with a glistening blue breast and neck and a spectacular bronze-green train of around 200 elongated feathers. The female is brownish, slightly smaller than the male, and lacks the train.
The peacock is widely found in the Indian sub-continent from the south and east of the Indus river, Jammu and Kashmir, east Assam, south Mizoram and the whole of the Indian peninsula. It is fully protected under the Indian Wildlife (protection) Act, 1972.

Small amounts of radioactive iodine found in breast milk of 4 women

FUKUSHIMA —
A citizen’s group concerned about the impact on mothers and babies of the radioactive leaks from a crippled nuclear power plant in Fukushima Prefecture said Wednesday that small amounts of radioactive iodine have been found in the breast milk of four women living east or northeast of Tokyo.
Of the samples provided by the four women, the breast milk of the mother of an 8-month-old baby in Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture, contained the highest level of 36.3 becquerels of radioactive iodine per kilogram, but no radioactive cesium was found, the group said.
The Nuclear Safety Commission of Japan has not set safety levels for radioactive substances in breast milk, according to the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry. But the reading was below the safety limit of 100 becquerels per kg for tap water consumption by infants under 1 year old.
‘‘We cannot yet determine safety, but infants drink breast milk,’’ said Kikuko Murakami, who heads the group. ‘‘We want the government to conduct an extensive investigation swiftly.’‘
The samples of around 120 to 130 milliliters each were offered by nine women in Chiba, Miyagi, Fukushima and Ibaraki prefectures on March 24 and 30. The group had them analyzed at a private-sector radiation measurement company.
According to the group, milk from a woman in Moriya, Ibaraki Prefecture, contained 31.8 becquerels of radioactive iodine, but the second test for her showed a lower reading of 8.5 becquerels.
Milk from two women in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, contained 8.7 and 6.4 becquerels.
Meanwhile, no radioactive iodine was detected in the breast milk of four women in the city of Fukushima, the town of Tanakura in Fukushima Prefecture, Shiroishi in Miyagi Prefecture and Tsukubamirai in Ibaraki Prefecture.
The group said breast milk from a woman in Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture, was still being analyzed.
The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant on the Pacific coast of Fukushima Prefecture has spewed radioactive materials into the air and sea since it was crippled by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, which devastated the country’s northeast.

Broken In Two But Free From You

 Follow my pride
I've got nothing to hide
The stailness I taste
Makes all my efforts a waste
My spine bends forward with pain you have caused
Now my life is rewound, play pressed, unpaused

You have been my pain
You have now caused me pride
Sleeked back to hide in that
Deep, barren hollow

Step forward I shall
Remove that blackened veil
No longer to hide from the sorrow
For there is always tomorrow
Free from you to do as I choose
Hey, I,ve got nothing to loose

You have been my pain
You have now caused me pride
Sleeked back to hide in that
Deep, barren hollow

Unshakable Mistake

They have what it takes to make you smile,
While I lack the ability to make you walk that extra mile
All this pain remains, although I wish it to fade
Beautiful mistake, this longing I cant shake, for the blade
Shining, it catches my eye, I try, but I cant help this
Will my scars fade? Or forever stay? Was my ignorance really bliss?
Your memory weighs on my like lead, I try to forget you but you stick
With me instead, you are forever inside my head
I see that photo my heart sinks deeper, my love I see you in my sleep
I wake to find that I was weeping
Did it again, slid that demon against my skin, it felt so good to finally let it win
Every day, I feel you slowly fade away, with every line I create, I forget the things
You used to say
Its too late, I cant wait for you to remember what our fate was suppose to be
With a grin, I finally give in, and bring that shiny thing against my skin
A little line I make, shiver up my spine, I see that beautiful design
And it is marvelous in my eyes

Thousands of devotees rush to pay homage to Sathya Sai

Top political leaders, Bollywood personalities, sportsmen and lakhs of devotees are rushing to Puttaparthi to pay homage to Sathya Sai Baba. The spiritual leader passed away on Sunday. Sachin Tendulkar is expected to reach Puttaparthi today. Top politicians including BJP president Nitin Gadkari, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, Karnataka chief minister B Yeddyurappa, TDP president Chandrababu Naidu and Prajarajyam chief Chiranjeevi.
Sunil Gavaskar was there to pay his respects as well.
Sathya Sai's body was wrapped in a saffron-coloured cloth and kept in a glass casket in the ashram's central hall.
Prominent VIPs seated close to the casket were Andhra Pradesh health minister J Geetha Reddy, Ratnakar, Baba's nephew and son of his younger brother Janakiramaiah and Baba's personal caregiver Satyajit.
While thousands of devotees stood in serpentine queues through the night and early Monday outside Prashanti Nilayam for a glimpse of their 'god' Sathya Sai Baba lying in an air-conditioned glass casket, scores of VIPs, including politicians, celebrities, stars and top officials had the privilege to enter Kulwant Hall through the back door to see his frail body.
A stampede broke out outside the ashram late on Sunday night. No injuries were reported and police raised barricades to keep the crowds at bay.

Drinking tea daily as good as water

A new study has found that drinking four to six mugs of tea daily is as good as a litre of water for keeping yourself hydrated.

The finding disproves the idea that regular tea drinking can dehydrate the body because of its caffeine content.

The research also found no negative health effects from
drinking that amount of tea.

In the high quality UK clinical trial, 21 volunteers drank either four 240ml mugs of tea over a 12-hour period - equivalent to just under one litre of tea in total - or a similar amount of plain, boiled water served warm.

The tea included 20ml of semi-skimmed milk but no sugar.

The test was also repeated using six cups of tea or plain water, equivalent to nearly 1.5 litres of fluid, to investigate the effect of intakes.

Blood samples were taken before consumption and at regular intervals to check hydration levels. Analysis found no significant differences between drinking tea and water.

"Tea is an excellent way to maintain healthy fluid levels. In addition, tea is a rich source of flavonoids, which have been associated with a reduced risk of heart disease and stroke,"

India at a Galance (National Emblem)

The State emblem is an adaptation from the Sarnath Lion Capital of Ashoka. In the original, there are four lions, standing back to back, mounted on an abacus with a frieze carrying sculptures in high relief of an elephant, a galloping horse, a bull and a lion separated by intervening wheels over a bell-shaped lotus. Carved out of a single block of polished sandstone, the capital is crowned by the Wheel of the Law (Dharma Chakra).

In the State emblem, adopted by the Government of India on 26 January 1950, only three lions are visible the fourth being hidden from view. The wheel appears in relief in the centre of the abacus with a bull on right and a horse on left and the outlines of other wheels on extreme right and left. The bell-shaped lotus has been omitted. The words Satyameva Jayate from Mundaka Upanishad, meaning ‘Truth Alone Triumphs’, are inscribed below the abacus in Devanagri script.

Really Serious Baby Babble

AUTISM Till now, we thought baby talk was just ata-pu, gadda-badu. A new study has shown that babble can actually predict if a toddler is on the autistic spectrum. Scientists at the University of Memphis have used a computer programme to study baby talk and all the codes that lie within it. This audio analysis has already identified more than 85 per cent of autistic and non-autistic kids. Toddlers with autism tend to mangle syllables more. This programme could be used to screen children; early diagnosis means early intervention. In America, one out of 110 kids are on the autistic spectrum. Incidence is also on the rise in India.

Toxic Whales

POLLUTION Sperm whales, feeding in places like the Arctic and Antarctic, are showing high levels of toxic and heavy metals, according to a $5 million study by Ocean Alliance, an American research and conversation group. The whales ingested pollutants that may have been produced by humans thousands of miles away. High levels of cadmium, aluminum, chromium, lead, silver, mercury and titanium were found in tissue samples taken by dart gun from nearly 1,000 whales over five years. Mercury levels were as high as 16 parts per million. Fish high in mercury, like shark and swordfish, typically have levels of about 1 part per million. Chromium, an industrial pollutant that causes cancer in humans, was found in all but two of the 361 sperm whale samples.

Pedal Power

CYCLE DRIVE Here’s something Indian cities could learn from the United Kingdom. London has launched a Cycle Superhighway to make more people commute via bicycles. Highly visible bright blue cycle lanes, symbolizing freedom, now run from the southern suburb of Merton to the city center, as well as from Barking, in eastern London. The remaining ten routes are eventually planned to radiate out from the centre of London like spokes, and will be finished by the end of 2015. Cycling has become an effective form of alternate transportation is congested metropolises like New York City and Paris. Promoting a pedal culture improves traffic conditions while lowering the city’s carbon footprint.

The Bold and the Beautiful

If there is one thing that Gita Gopinath’s success proves, it is that you don’t have to be ugly to succeed (‘India’s Next Gen Harvard Professor’). For long, beautiful women have been denigrated as bimbettes, and all sort of innuendos are implied if they happen to make a mark for themselves. To all those people who love beautiful women, as long as they never rise to the top, go attack the dons at Harvard. Tell us all the sleaze that went on behind the scenes before she could take up that permanent job at the university. If you can't so that kindly let beautiful women be-in India as well.
